Vault

Vault is a personal savings tracker available at vaultsavings.app. It is an independent application with no corporate entity behind it.

Vault collects no personal data. The app has no backend server, no database, and no analytics infrastructure. There is no mechanism by which your data reaches us.

Everything you enter — transactions, amounts, dates, and settings — is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage on your own device. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to connect a backup.

Vault offers an optional Google Drive backup. Connecting Google Drive is not required to use Vault. If you do choose to connect it, the following applies:

Scope of access: Vault requests only the drive.file permission — the most restricted scope available. This grants Vault access solely to files that Vault itself created. Vault cannot read, modify, or access any other file in your Google Drive.

What is stored: A single file named vault-savings-backup.json containing your transaction data. If you have enabled encryption, this file is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being written to Drive, so the contents are protected even within your own Drive.

What Vault does not access: Vault does not request access to your Google profile, email address, contacts, calendar, or any other Google service.

Vault also supports saving to a local file on your device or to a network location such as a NAS or WebDAV server. These backups are written directly from your browser to your chosen destination. No data passes through any server we operate.

Vault uses no cookies, no analytics platforms, no advertising networks, and no third-party tracking scripts of any kind. The only browser storage Vault uses is localStorage — a standard browser feature that stores data locally on your device and is never transmitted automatically.

We do not share data with third parties because we do not hold any of your data. The only external services Vault interacts with are:

Google APIs — only when you explicitly connect Google Drive backup. This interaction is governed by Google's own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Google Fonts — Vault loads the DM Serif Display and DM Sans typefaces from Google Fonts. This is a standard web font request and does not involve any personal data from Vault.

Vault offers optional AES-256-GCM encryption for backup files. When enabled, your data is encrypted entirely within the browser before being written to any backup destination. The encryption key is derived from your chosen password and never leaves your device.

When you set a password, a recovery key file is downloaded automatically. This is the only way to recover your data if you forget your password — Vault holds no record of your password or encryption key and cannot recover your data on your behalf.

Vault is a general-purpose financial tracking tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 13.

If this policy changes in a material way, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated. As Vault has no account system, we are unable to notify users directly — we encourage you to review this page occasionally.

The app is a single HTML file — you can save it locally, inspect every line, and run it offline. There are no build steps, no frameworks, and no hidden dependencies.

When exchange rates are needed — for example, when converting transaction amounts between currencies — Vault fetches daily rates from ExchangeRate-API. Rates are cached in your backup file so that subsequent devices and sessions use the stored data rather than making additional requests.

Fonts: Vault uses DM Serif Display and DM Sans, served via Google Fonts. Both are open source typefaces designed by Colophon Foundry and released under the SIL Open Font Licence.

Exchange rates: Daily currency exchange rate data is provided by ExchangeRate-API.

Icons: All icons in Vault are custom SVG elements designed specifically for the app.
